MACY
MERIDIAN

Macy
Grey Median
Hi, everyone! I'm Macy Grey Median. That's right! I'm the kitten
who was hit by a car in front of Macy's Department Store on Route
9 in Natick opposite Pet World.
It was a rainy night in March and I was miraculously rescued by
a Good Samaritan and taken to Pet World where Sue Webb, President
of SPIN, came to take me to VETcision in Waltham. Dr. John Benson
performed surgery and put several pins in my broken left femur.
The large pin was removed and on August 10th, I had two more pins
removed. By mid-September all the pins had been removed.
Dr. Benson said that the bone needs to have some tension so that
it will grow stronger. He said I should walk to make the leg stronger.
WALK! He doesn't know I don't understand that word. The word I know
is RUN! I like to go fast and dash around the room. My foster care
parent tries to keep me calm but I want to go, go, GO! I get so
tired of being in a cage. I look forward to my hour or so of running
around each day.
I watch PBS cartoons a lot and also Animal Planet. It's great when
I hear real animal sounds such as the time the leopards were making
mating calls. My ears really perked up! When the
TV isn't on, I listen to WCRB. I'm getting to know classical music!
I like the "1812 Overture." It makes me want to run!
I'll be eleven months old in August. Most of my kittenhood has been
in a cast and a cage. There is a big tuxedo cat in my foster home
and we play sometimes. He is gentle with me even when we wrestle.
He's fun but I would like someone my own size to play with.
I want to thank all of you who have been so generous in replenishing
the Gary Fund, the fund for special veterinary needs. These funds
were used for my surgeries and follow-up care. And thank you for
the other animals it will help in the future. We're so grateful!
Gotta run!

Macy
Meridian was found on Rt. 9 median strip in front of Macy's store.
She found her way to SPIN through Natick animal control after being
stabilized by Dr. Moolenbeck at Natick Animal Clinic. Her femur
was severely damaged, probably hit by a car trying to cross Rt.9.
Several
local veterinarians took a look and referred us to Vetcision in
Waltham for a specialist. Dr. John Benson performed the surgery
to repair her leg. She is now resting and recuperating in a cage
to limit her activity while her leg heals. In 6-8 weeks the hardware
will be removed and she will be able to run around and play again.
Through all her pain she continued to purr and knead and rub her
head against everyone's hand so she could be patted.
Thanks
to the Gary Fund we were able to help Macy Meridian immediately,
which was important as she was in severe pain. The $2,100.00 for
Macy Meridians surgery exhausted the Gary Fund; but you can help
her now and help rebuild the Gary Fund for the next stray in immediate
need of veterinary care by sending a donation to SPIN, PO Box 812143,
Wellesley, MA 02482 and make a note it is for the Gary Fund and
Macy Meridian.
UPDATE
JULY 1, 2007:
Macy
Meridian had some of the hard ware removed from her leg on June
29th, 2007 and is healing well. She goes back in a month for another
x-ray and hopefully the rest of the hardware removed. Lyn Woodhead
continues to foster her and do the physical therapy that is helping
her to mend. Macy Meridan is eager to be healed and run around and
climb like other kittens (6 months old) her age.
